What is Reiki?

Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. It was discovered in the early 1900s by Dr. Usui. It is taught person to person, using symbols and attunements.

The word “Rei” is interpreted to mean “higher knowledge.” It understands each person individually.

The word “Ki” means “life energy.” As long as something is alive, it has life energy.

Reiki is a spiritually guided life force energy. When there is a disruption in that energy, it makes one vulnerable to illness. Reiki helps to restore our life energy by recharging any negative energy back to positive again. It allows the energy to flow in a healthy, natural way.

After a Reiki session, both animals and people enjoy a gentle overall feeling of well-being. Reiki can help bring one back into balance. The key to wholeness AND wellness in both people and animals is balance.

There is no “bad” Reiki; it can never harm. The energy always knows where to go and what to do. Reiki works well in combination with any medical treatment. Reiki can reduce negative side effects from chemotherapy, surgery, etc. It can shorten healing time and help reduce pain.

It must be understood that Reiki is not a “cure-all.” If it is a person’s or an animal’s destiny that they not recover, they won’t. What Reiki will do is help ease pain and make an easier, more peaceful transition to another plane.

In addition to working with people who have had cancer, stress problems and arthritis, I have been led to work with animals. I have been working with dogs that have Addison’s, Cushing’s, arthritis, separation anxiety, and other illnesses. Most dogs are just more relaxed after Reiki and look forward to their sessions. It can be a great benefit to pregnant animals, and pregnant women too! It’s good for performance dogs as well! A session before a show may help to keep the animal more balanced and centered, and afterward, get the body’s energy where it needs to be to stay healthy.

Reiki can be done in person or from a distance. Distance Reiki can be quite helpful for animals, as they don’t need to be disturbed and can receive the energy right in their own homes.
